Why Two Ski Straps Are Better Than One for Alpine Skiers

If you’re gearing up for a day on the slopes, you’ve probably seen skiers using straps to keep their skis together. But do you actually need two ski straps, or is one enough? Here’s what most skiers get wrong — and how using two can drastically improve your experience.

Whether you’re a weekend warrior or seasoned shredder, this quick guide breaks down why two ski straps are ideal, and how they protect your gear, save frustration, and make carrying your skis safer and easier.

✅ Quick Answer: Yes, Two Ski Straps Are Recommended

While one strap can technically hold your skis together, using two ski straps — one at the tips and one at the tails — offers far better stability, protection, and carry control.

Why One Strap Isn’t Enough

Many beginners assume one ski strap will do the trick. But here’s what typically happens:

  • Skis twist or pivot while walking

  • Edges scrape together, especially during transport

  • Unstable bundle increases the risk of accidental drops

Using just one strap near the center of the skis might keep them together briefly, but the moment you sling them over your shoulder or carry them longer distances, things get sloppy.

Benefits of Using Two Ski Straps

Using a pair of high-performance ski straps — like the Skiezy™ Performance Ski Straps — provides real, tangible benefits:

  • Prevents Damage: Keeps tips and tails aligned so ski edges don’t grind

  • Easier to Carry: Creates a firm, compact bundle that doesn’t shift

  • Safer Handling: Reduces chance of dropping or separating mid-carry

  • Better for Storage: Keeps skis flat and protected in vehicles or racks

How to Use Two Ski Straps the Right Way

To maximize effectiveness:

1 First strap: Place near the tips (below the shovel curve).

2 Second strap: Wrap tightly just above the tails.

3 Align brakes or bindings in between to minimize gaps.

4 Tighten both straps firmly, but avoid excessive compression.

What If You Only Have One?

If you’re in a pinch and only have one strap, place it centrally between bindings — but this should be temporary. Your skis will still twist slightly and rub. We recommend upgrading to a 2-pack or 3-pack set for full support.
